SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Most people never have the chance to meet a U.S. attorney, but attendees of a town hall in Camden Monday night have an opportunity to meet the head prosecutor and share what’s on their minds.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey has been hosting town halls across the state to explain aspects of the legal system and answer questions from citizens. U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger said he’s eager to meet them.

“We serve the community. We represent the community, and hopefully, through the town hall, we can better learn how to better serve the community,” he said.

One effort of the series is to educate people about legal jurisdiction and explain the difference between a federal, state and local case.

“I’ll talk about policing, a wide range of civil rights prosecutions,” he said. “Talk about some of the other areas of redlining, environmental justice, white-collar crime, and some of the other priorities of the office. And another thing we try and do is explain the difference between the United States attorney’s office, the state attorney general’s offices and the local prosecutor.”

Doors open for the town hall at 6 p.m. at the Tabernacle of Faith Church of God in Christ, located at 115 N. Fifth St. The event runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public, no registration required.
