PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Local families that have experienced loss due to gun violence and other traumatic experiences were given several special Christmas gifts to bring light to their holiday season.

2020 has been a rough year for Christopher Daye. His mother died, his wife spent time in the hospital as a result of having coronavirus and one of his sons was shot and killed.

“I got hit by a truck recently at work, so we just been down and out, but we still stuck together,” Daye said.

But to help brighten up the holidays for Daye and his family, they were gifted Christmas presents and grocery gift cards by the nonprofit 12 Days of Christmas.

It’s a gesture that Daye said is helping his family get through a tough time.

“I'm speechless and humbled. I'm greatly honored,” he added.

Stephanie Mays Boyd with the nonprofit said they were able to grant Christmas wishes for 30 Philadelphia families who were in need of a little extra cheer.

“You just never know what people are going through. Giving back to others, there's no better blessing,” she said.

The nonprofit was able to give more than $30,000 dollars in gifts to local families.
