PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man was sentenced to 10 months in prison on Wednesday for stealing and laundering more than $1.6 million from the religious nonprofit where he worked.
Federal prosecutors said John Miller, 77, pleaded guilty to charges including wire fraud this past March.
Investigators haven't identified which nonprofit he worked for, but they said it was based in Philadelphia and it gave financial assistance to widows and orphans of dead clergy members. Miller was the executive director and treasurer.
Investigators said he spent the money on luxury travel, a condo and other personal expenses.
Alongside his prison sentence, he must also pay back the money he stole and spend two years on supervised release with six months of home confinement once he gets out.
