NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A 20-year-old Montgomery County woman is charged with homicide by vehicle, accused of racing another driver before crashing into several cars in Norristown.
Around 10:30 pm on June 26, Ashley Jones of Norristown was going more than 55 mph over the speed limit, heading east on West Main Street about a quarter-mile from Markley Street, when she lost control and hit several cars, according to the Montgomery County district attorney.
Francisco Salgado-Hernandez, 31, who was in the back seat of one of those cars, died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Six other people were hurt, one critically.
Police say it was raining heavily, and video from nearby homes and businesses shows Jones was racing a driver in another car when she lost control.
Jones denied she was racing at the time, according to the criminal complaint. A passenger in her car told police Jones said, “You can’t beat me” as they sped through an intersection shortly before the crash.
Police say data from Jones' car show she was going 83 mph. The posted speed limit is 25 mph.
Jones is facing homicide by vehicle and related charges.
