PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 19-year-old was killed in a shootout at a house party near Temple University’s campus in North Philadelphia late Sunday night.

Around 11 p.m., police responded to the area of 16th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue after the ShotSpotter system detected dozens of shots being fired. The neighborhood is just blocks away from the Liacouras Center.

Police said there was a shootout between people at a house party in a row home and several others inside a U-Haul.

As police started to investigate, people were not cooperating, according to Inspector D.F. Pace.

“[Officers] encountered numerous young people who were somewhat combative and were preventing officers from properly investigating the scene. Some of them actually getting physical with the officers,” Pace said.

Police eventually got the situation under control. There were no shooting victims at the scene, but police later learned that the U-Haul, peppered with bullets, ended up at the hospital. Pace said there were five people between the ages of 16 and 19 in the vehicle.

“Transporting one of those 19-year-olds who had been shot multiple times. And it appears that they were inside that U-Haul truck when he was shot,” he said.

The victim was pronounced dead. Police said they took the four others who were in the U-Haul into custody.

No word yet from police on a motive. They are trying to identify others who were involved. Police also said some of the people who were at the party may be charged because they interfered with the investigation.
