PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 21-year-old man drowned in the ocean off North Wildwood on Thursday, police said.
Ahmet Yimenici, from Turkey, was pulled out of the ocean unconscious by a group of surfers around 2 p.m. near Second Avenue and the beach, authorities said.
Fire department and beach patrol personnel arrived and began life-saving efforts. The man was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials said the incident does not appear to involve foul play.
“Our hearts go out to Mr. Yimenici’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” Police Chief Katherine Madden said in a statement. “I also want to recognize the quick actions of the surfers and civilians on scene. Their willingness to act without hesitation gave this young man the best possible chance, and we’re grateful for their courage.”
