SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — An Ocean County man killed his wife and her parents before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.
It happened early Tuesday morning on Fairwood Drive in Berkeley Township.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said 37-year-old Vaughn Stewart, of Maplewood, shot his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Michelle and Allan Russell, inside their home. He then chased his wife, 38-year-old Deonna Stewart, outside and shot her about 50 yards down the street.
Police arrived at the scene as Vaughn Stewart re-entered the home, and officers heard additional shots fired from inside. Investigators said he shot himself in the head. He later died at the hospital.
Their three children were inside the home during the shooting but were not injured. Investigators said Deonna Stewart was separated from her husband, and she and their children lived at her parents’ house.
The shooting remains under investigation.
