Off-duty cop who drove into NE Philly house to be fired, police say

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The off-duty police officer who drove his car into a Northeast Philadelphia house over the weekend has been suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.

Police say 27-year-old Gregory Campbell was driving drunk Saturday night when his car went airborne and plowed into a house on the 2800 block of Comly Road around 8:30 p.m.

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said Campbell struck a 53-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man and their two dogs. The woman was critically injured, and one of the dogs died.

The crash also caused severe property damage.

Police arrested Campbell for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Campbell is a two-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department and was most recently assigned to the 14th District.

He now faces numerous charges, including aggravated assault while driving under the influence, reckless driving, aggravated assault by vehicle, and recklessly endangering another person.
