PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As Eagles fans scrape at every corner of the internet for last-minute tickets to the Super Bowl in New Orleans this Sunday, law enforcement officials warn folks to be extra vigilant when making those online purchases.

It’s no secret that scammers are everywhere and can easily spoof a website. They can create one with nearly identical imagery to sites like Ticketmaster and StubHub but with a slightly misspelled web address.

Authorities caution fans to double-and triple-check the website before making any purchases and to always use a valid credit card company. This will greatly help your case in instances of a scam.

Pennsylvania Attorney General David W. Sunday, Jr. warns consumers that when it comes to online sales, especially on Facebook Marketplace, don’t fall for someone asking for wire transfers, crypto, or online gift cards. He says to make sure you stick to credit cards.

As the adage goes: if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Officials say anyone who finds they’ve been scammed using a credit card should contact the company to stop the payment. Consumer protection bureaus are also set up in Pennsylvania & New Jersey for anyone who may have fallen victim.
