PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Roads are closed off in Old City around the area of 3rd and Chestnut streets because of a fire at the Society Hill Hotel on Wednesday morning.

Battalion Chief William McPeak says it originated in one of the rooms on the third floor. None of the occupants or firefighters were hurt.

"There were a couple of motel rooms that were occupied, and they were evacuated prior to our arrival," McPeak said.

This is the same corner where two brothers were accused of setting fire to their business in 2018. They later pleaded guilty to arson and tax fraud.

"I don’t know [what it is about this corner]. It’s just bad luck, I guess. Not really. I don’t know," said Battalion Chief Christopher Beale with the fire marshall's office. "Fires happen all over the city all the time."

Beale says there is no indication that this fire was set intentionally, as it is still under investigation.
