PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A political canvasser shot and killed another while they were both going door-to-door in the Ogontz neighborhood on Monday.
It happened around 4 p.m. on Church Lane, near 20th Street.
Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore said the men got into an argument, and both pulled out guns. The 22-year-old shot the 46-year-old.
"Both were identified by people as campaign workers working for a nonprofit," Vanore said. "They're in the area, they happened upon each other. We think there may have been some history between them."
According to authorities, medics rushed the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 10 minutes later. Police recovered two firearms at the scene.
The shooter had a permit to carry and is cooperating with police. It is unknown if he will face charges.
Both men were working for One Pennsylvania. The group said it is "heartbroken" over the loss.

The nonprofit had endorsed Philadelphia mayoral candidate Helen Gym. Gym said she's also "devastated" by the loss.
"Though the canvasser was not part of our campaign, this loss is deeply felt by all of us," she tweeted.
I was devastated to hear about the tragic death of a canvasser today. My thoughts are with the family of the victim, the One PA community, and everyone impacted by this irrevocable loss. Though the canvasser was not part of our campaign, this loss is deeply felt by all of us.
