PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Department of Dermatology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine has developed a useful website that lets people look up pictures of rashes or skin lesions to try to understand issues they may be experiencing themselves.

It is best to check with a physician for confirmation, but self-education can be very helpful. This site is different from others in a very important way. The University of New Mexico has developed what it calls the inclusive dermatology atlas.

This online atlas has images from skin types I-VI on the Fitzpatrick scale, which measures skin color and response to sunlight. This makes comparison much easier for people of all skin colors.
