PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities are investigating after gunfire erupted outside of a Montgomery County Wawa early Sunday morning.
"It's just a wild event that happened last night, definitely unexpected," said Chris, who lives across the street from the Wawa at 1300 East Ridge Pike in Plymouth Meeting. "3:30 in the morning should be quiet."
He and his son said it was a frightening morning for them, after shots were fired in the Wawa parking lot just before 4 a.m. Officials said two people were taken to the hospital following the shooting, though they haven't released their conditions or confirmed if they were shot.
More than 20 shots were reportedly fired, hitting parked cars and storefront windows. At least a dozen spent shell casings were found on the ground outside the store.
Chris said he's lived in the neighborhood for 14 years, and that things changed dramatically after the Wawa was built, bringing more traffic and more problems.
"It's surprising that it hasn't happened more. This used to be a smaller street, then they opened the street up and the Wawa up and we have way more people coming," he said. "It's usually safe, but it can happen anywhere, I guess."
No suspects are in custody and weapons have yet to be found.
