NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — PATCO has made some changes to its weekday OWL service.

No trains will operate between midnight and 4:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. All stations and concourse areas will be closed during that time.

The last train each weeknight will leave at 11:30 p.m. So if you usually catch a later ride, you may want to plan ahead.

PATCO says this is part of an effort to address safety and cleanliness concerns, improve conditions for staff, and give riders a better overall experience.

As of now, there is no specific end date to PATCO's improvement campaign, but it's expected to last about six months.

Weekend overnight service remains unaffected.

Phase 1 of PATCO's closures went into effect earlier this summer, with trains operating every two hours overnight. PATCO says ridership during overnight hours is very low, averaging 25 riders per hour.

"By scheduling closures when demand is lightest, PATCO is able to minimize customer impact while maximizing progress on systemwide improvements," the transit agency posted on its website.
