PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — PATCO’s nerve center is moving south to newer digs. The Delaware River Port Authority is relocating its control center from Camden to Lindenwold.

The dispatchers who control the movement of PATCO trains work out of a single-window facility in Camden, which was built before the speedline launched in 1969.

“They’re on the second floor of an electrical substation. So they’ve been working in the same space for 50-plus years with very little renovations,” said General Manager John Rink.

A new control center at PATCO’s Lindenwold yard will provide upgraded monitors for dispatchers and customer service representatives.

“The digital screen that they look at the train movement will now be a bigger board,” Rink explained. “Probably three or four times the size it currently is now. All new computers and all new workstations.”

Earlier this week, the DRPA board approved a $19 million contract with AP Construction of Blackwood to build the new center. Groundbreaking is expected late this year or early 2024.
