PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Pennsylvania House passed a Philadelphia lawmaker bill that would encourage schools to have children write their Pennsylvania story.

The bill would create guidelines for schools and teachers called “What is your Pennsylvania story?” in preparation for America’s 250th birthday in 2026.

Philadelphia Democrat Jared Solomon says the hope is to connect young people from all 67 counties across Pennsylvania.

“Through this legislation, young people will be connected through their culture, their music, their literature, faith, food, and dance,” Solomon said.

The bill passed the State House 192 to 10, but with the current legislative session winding down, it’s unclear if it will have enough time to pass the State Senate.
