Personal info of school staff, students accidentally released, Montco officials say

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Montgomery County officials said they mistakenly released the personal health information of hundreds of students and school staff.

A county spokesperson said information was released, unredacted, as part of a “right to know request.”

She said there were hundreds of names on a spreadsheet, along with dates of birth, addresses and COVID-19 statuses.

She said the county is reaching out to each person on the list and working with outside HIPPA counsel to make sure they properly address the situation.

She assured no financial information or Social Security numbers were on the list. She also emphasized this was not a result of a data breach.
