PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Mayor Jim Kenney has chosen Temple University Vice President Anne Nadol as his new commerce director. She becomes the third commerce director of his administration.

Nadol replaces Michael Rashid, who resigned three months ago, after remarks and social media posts that were criticized as antisemitic.

Nadol served in city government during the administration of Ed Rendell in the 1990s. She also worked at the U.S. Commerce Department before joining Temple more than 20 years ago.

The city's commerce director oversees and enacts policies meant to help small businesses and corporations in Philadelphia.

In a statement from the mayor’s office, Nadol said she is excited to help bring economic opportunity to all ZIP codes of the city.

Kenney says her background and experience are “exactly the right fit” for the city.
