PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is moving forward with charges against a former Philadelphia Police Department staff inspector.

Joseph Bologna was fired from the police department after cell phone footage surfaced of him allegedly hitting a Temple student above the neck while protesting.

The student was arrested for assaulting law enforcement, but after reviewing evidence, the District Attorney's office filed assault charges against Bologna instead.

The charges were dismissed by a lower-court judge earlier this year, but Krasner says they are refiling to get justice.

According to the District Attorney's office, the Temple student suffered serious injuries from the encounter.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 President John McNesby denounced the charges against Bologna, and said they will not give up the fight to clear his name.
