PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Biden-Harris campaign has a new target for voter outreach. Philadelphia’s Democratic Party is holding an event on Thursday to make a pitch for voters over 50.

Philadelphia Democratic Committee Chair Bob Brady said President Joe Biden has a strong case to make to older voters: “President Biden is and has been and will protect Medicare, Social Security, protect our seniors.”

An AARP Pennsylvania poll released on Wednesday finds that, indeed, those are the issues that are most important to voters over 50. And yet, Republican Donald Trump — who has said he’s open to cutting Medicare and Social Security — has a 10-point lead among older voters in the state.

The Biden-Harris campaign has launched Seniors for Biden-Harris and is holding events around the country — especially in battleground states — to emphasize the candidates’ records on those issues. The events include bingo nights, pickleball games and ice cream socials in some cities, but the Philadelphia event will be a simple press conference featuring senior voters.

Brady stressed they are an important block to reach.

“Older voters can’t wait to vote,” he said. “They get out every election, and they have something now really to vote for.”
