PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — At least three people are dead in Philadelphia, after nearly 20 people were shot over the weekend.
Just after midnight Sunday, police say they found a man dead at the bottom of a basement stairway in an Eastwick home.
"We don't know how this male is connected to the address or any persons in the address," Captain Anthony Ginaldi said.
In another fatal shooting, about two hours later, police say a 34-year-old man was shot in the neck and killed inside a car in North Philadelphia.
Then just before 4 p.m., police say, a 26-year-old woman was shot several times in the face. A 40-year-old man — himself, suffering from several gunshot wounds — drove her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The man is considered to be stable condition.
Investigators say there were also two separate double shootings on Sunday. One happened in Tacony, injuring a 16-year-old boy and critically wounding a 43-year-old man. The other happened in Frankford, where a 24-year-old man, who was hit twice, is considered critical, and a 25-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet.
On Saturday, there were two shooting incidents in Chinatown. One left a 52-year-old man in critical condition, according to investigators. The other was a double shooting that happened inside a nightclub, injuring a man and woman. Both are expected to make a physical recovery.
Just before 10 p.m. Saturday, a 7-year-old boy was in his East Germantown bedroom when he was hit by a stray bullet police believe came from outside. He’s expected to be okay.
And two men, ages 23 and 59, are both in critical condition after separate shootings, also in North Philadelphia.
A handful of other shootings happened throughout Saturday and Sunday. Police say the victims of that gunfire are in stable condition.
