CHELTENHAM, P.A. (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man was charged by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday of homicide by vehicle for a fatal crash that happened back on the night of Sept. 18.
The DA’s Office said 47-year-old Cedric Galette of East Germantown was high on PCP when he and going more than double the speed limit when he ran a red light on North 5th Street near Cheltenham Avenue.
Galette crashed into a car driven by 28-year-old Troy Rivera, smashing it into a pole. Rivera died 10 days later from his injuries sustained in the crash.
In addition to testing positive for PCP, an affidavit said the substance was also found in Galette’s car. It also said there were no skid marks on the road, showing no indication Galette tried swerve out of the way or stop before hitting Rivera’s car.
Galette registration was also expired and he was driving without a license.
He is currently being held on a $50,000 bail and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 4.
