PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There has been swirling speculation and rumor that Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has been chosen as New York City's next top cop.
The department's current police commissioner, Dermot Shea, announced his retirement last week, as New York Mayor-Elect Eric Adams will be sworn in next month.
"There is a rumor that is just out there, it's wild and it's out of control. I am not resigning today," said Outlaw.
"I appreciate the honorable mentions, and it's quite flattering, quite frankly, but I will tell you I will still continue to focus on my work here, and obviously if I had information to share, I would share it. I will leave it at that."
Outlaw has been with the department for just under two years.
