PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police say two officers shot a homicide suspect in the back last week after a foot chase in Kensington.

Police say officers Josue Reyes and Michael Trask were on patrol the evening of Oct. 29  when they encountered 29-year-old Spencer Majett, who is suspected of killing 23-year-old Felicity Vanatta on Oct. 8.

Officials say Majett fled after he was approached near East Clearfield and Reach streets. Officer Reyes used his taser on Majett after officials say the officers noticed the man was armed.

And officials say a single gunshot was fired before the officers fired their guns at Majett, hitting him twice in the upper back. The incident was captured on body cam but it isn't clear when officials plan to make it public.

No officers were hurt, and Majett was said to be in critical but stable condition at a hospital after the incident.

A loaded .40 caliber handgun was recovered from the scene.

Majett is being charged in Vanatta’s death. He also faces two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer for the Oct. 29 incident.

Both officers are one-year veterans of the Philadelphia Police Department. They have been placed on administrative duty while an internal affairs investigation continues.
