PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two 18-year-old men are in stable condition after they were shot on a SEPTA bus in North Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon. Police are now looking for the gunman.
Officials say a man who boarded a Route 33 bus at 21st and Diamond streets around noon got into an argument with another passenger and pulled a gun. He allegedly shot the man he was arguing with, wounding him in the groin. A second passenger sustained a graze wound to his thigh.
The gunman got off the bus and ran away.
“At that time of day, you have people traveling to and from work, trying to get to doctors appointments and running errands, and this is certainly not the kind of thing that anyone should expect that they are going to have to deal while they are on a bus just going about their business,” said SEPTA’s Andrew Busch.
“Obviously, it was a very traumatizing incident for the bus operator and the other people who were on board. So it’s a top priority for us to investigate this and try to find the person responsible.”
SEPTA Transit Police and Philadelphia police are working together in the investigation, reviewing footage from the bus' security camera.
There have been no arrests and no weapons have been recovered.
