PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Police Department has released two more surveillance videos from the series of September looting and burglary incidents across the city in the hopes of making more arrests.
One video shows several individuals breaking into a local pharmacy in Fairhill on Sept. 26. They backed a car up to the front door and attached some sort of cord to try to yank it open.
Police did not specify what the suspects stole.
Another video shows a burglary at a phone repair shop in the Stenton neighborhood of Northwest Philadelphia. Police said at least 10 masked people broke into the store around 3 a.m. on Sept. 27.
They stole phones and other accessories.
Officials said swarms of people took advantage of a peaceful protest on Sept. 26 and ransacked city businesses. The protest was in response to a judge’s decision to dismiss charges against former police officer Mark Dial in the fatal August shooting of Eddie Irizarry.
Dial, however, returned to court a month later, and all murder charges were reinstated.
Police previously released videos of other stores that were looted, like the Apple Store in Center City, a medical marijuana dispensary in Wynnefield, and a GameStop in Port Richmond.
Police are trying to identify the suspects shown in these clips. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or submit a tip by texting or calling 215-686-8477. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online.
