PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The School District of Philadelphia has reached a tentative four-year contract agreement with its principals union. The agreement, reached Monday night, gives raises to the district’s 1,000 principals, assistant principals and climate managers.
Members of the Commonwealth Association of School Administrators Teamsters Local 502 had been working without a new contract since the end of August. Last week, principals took their displeasure over the lack of a contract to City Council and the school board. The agreement was reached days later.
Local 502 President Robin Cooper said the agreement meets the union's expectations, including three percent raises across the board. The deal also gives principals paid parental leave for the first time.
Cooper said the deal “will provide continued stability for our administrative leaders.”
Superintendent Tony Watlington said the district endorses it.
“We intend to take this to the Board of Education for December for the board’s approval so we can move forward,” he said.
The principals were not threatening to strike.
