PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — File this one under fans behaving badly.
A Mets fan and a Phillies fan seemed to bring out the worst in each other on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.
After the game's final out, the Mets fan, wearing a Pete Alonso jersey, provocatively brought his phone within inches of a group of Phillies fans. One of the spectators, dressed in shorts and a Bryce Harper jersey, snatched the phone out of the Mets fan's hands and hurled it onto the turf in left field.
The Phillies fan bolted from the section after he was briefly blocked by another fan and what appeared to be an usher. The Mets fan looked stunned.
The hostile episode came at an interesting time for Phillies fans, who showed their softer side earlier this week when they welcomed infielder Alec Bohm with a huge ovation. Bohm apologized for cursing Philadelphia when he was booed after committing three errors on Monday.
Lest there be any doubt after the Bohm saga, Phillies fans haven't lost their notorious edge.
For Mets fans, they were no doubt feeling good after taking two of three from the Phillies on the road. And while it was unclear what preceded the phone-throwing incident, the fan in question shouldn't have been surprised by the response to aggressively filming rival fans amid a disappointing moment on home turf.
