NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A Phillipsburg, New Jersey police officer was shot and injured while responding to a domestic violence incident Saturday.
Authorities say the alleged suspect shot at the officer's car on Hanover Street. That’s when one of the fired bullets hit the cop in the leg.
The officer attempted to return fire, but the suspect shot and killed himself in the middle of the street. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital. No further information has been released on his condition or identity.
According to our partners at NBC10, police believe the suspect is a known domestic abuser who was recently arrested and released.
