PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A West Philadelphia designer has caught Beyoncé’s eye — not just for her fashion, but also for her mission.

Kimberly McGlonn, the owner of Grant Blvd, opened her shop at 3605 Lancaster Avenue just as the pandemic hit.

In early January, she found out she received a grant issued by Beyoncé’s foundation, BeyGOOD Foundation, in partnership with the NAACP. The two organizations set aside money to support Black-owned small businesses impacted by COVID-19.

She believes she caught their attention because her advocacy work is in alignment with the foundation’s, which include civil rights and sustainability.

Her advocacy work, she said, has taken on a life of its own over the years.

“What we’ve been doing and what we’re going to continue to do to make sure our footprint in this city shows our values alignment. So that’s volunteering at Books through Bars, donating masks to Project HOME,” she said.

Success, she noted, is more than fashion; it’s about getting the job done for everyone.

“We’re hyper local. We are really hype about making sure that we show up here and that we produce things here,” she added.
