PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania has passed a milestone in the battle against COVID-19. More than 50% of adults in Pennsylvania are now fully vaccinated, according to data provided to the Associated Press.
This comes as more restrictions are being eased in Philadelphia, where the figure stands at 37%. Starting Friday, those 652,000 fully vaccinated people in Philadelphia are not required to wear masks outside — just one among many city restrictions being eased.
Offices, as well as retail stores, libraries and museums, are now allowed to operate with no capacity limits, but people are still asked to wear a mask indoors if they are near people outside of their households.
The city says the indoor mask mandate for vaccinated people will go away June 11 if COVID-19 case counts continue to drop.
Restaurants remain at half of maximum capacity, unless they have beefed up their ventilation systems, in which case they can go to 75%.
One of the most visible changes may be that outdoor gatherings can go from 25% to 50% capacity, meaning the Phillies can have 16,000 fans at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night for their series opener against the Red Sox. And vaccinated baseball fans will not need masks.
According to a statement released by the Phillies on Friday, "fans will no longer be required to wear masks while in the seating bowl and outdoor areas at Citizens Bank Park. All fans must wear masks in indoor spaces including the Diamond Club, retail stores, elevators and restrooms. Fans who are unvaccinated are strongly encouraged to continue wearing masks at all times."
And indoors, the Sixers can have 10,000 fans at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday afternoon for the start of their playoffs against the Wizards.
