PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Film Society hosted their eighth annual Oscars Party and Screening benefit in University City on Sunday night.

More than 150 PFS members and donors attended, dressed to impress, while sipping champagne at Circa Green, the rooftop park on 30th Street.

Executive Director Andrew Greenblatt said it was the perfect night to watch the stars, under the stars.

"We love Oscar night," he said. "We’re big on tradition, and this year is the 8th annual, and it was really important for us to pull this off."

And pulling off this fundraising event safely was a must, he said.

The goal of PFS is to bring film experiences and education to diverse communities throughout Philadelphia.

Party guest Kate Marlyes agreed about safety, but she said after this long and difficulty year, she was ready to party.

"Honestly, to have an event outside, wearing masks, that I felt safe at was really exciting for me," Marlyes said.

Josie, another guest, who didn't give her full name, said she was excited to watch the Oscars, and the idea of a night out after, so many nights in, was enticing.

"Just being at an event like this, you can tell the energy is different from what it was like going into COVID, because people are excited to talk and be with people," she said.

Guest Prajjé Oscar, a designer, said he was there more for the party than the Academy Awards.

"I’m not necessarily invested in the Oscars, but I got both my vaccines and stayed in a whole year. I’m ready to go out!"
