PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Police say an argument about trash on the street may have led to a 37-year-old man being shot and killed Thursday night in North Philly.

Calls about shots fired near the intersection of 16th Street and Allegheny Avenue came in to Philadelphia police at about 11:30 p.m. Officers found a man unresponsive in the street with at least one gunshot wound to the face.

"When police arrived on location, they saw two males running from the scene, so 39th district officers chased and caught one of the males who was running from the scene, and that male did have a handgun in his waistband," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

That person is being questioned by homicide detectives, Small said, and investigators are going through surveillance video from the apartment building to see what exactly happened.

The victim was shot outside of his apartment building.

"There’s a large amount of trash and debris strewn about on the sidewalk and street. We’re being told the victim of the homicide may have been involved in an argument or an altercation regarding the trash and debris. So that’s possibly a motive," Small said.

Police urge anyone with more information on the shooting to contact them.
