PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — More than three years after a hit-and-run killed a teenage cyclist in Northeast Philadelphia, Philadelphia police and the U.S. Marshals Service announced the arrest of a suspect in the case.

Billy McWilliams was 16 years old in July 2023 when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of Woodhaven and Byberry Roads on his mountain bike. The driver sped away, and police said days later that they had found the striking vehicle, a stolen Dodge Charger, several miles away in Mayfair.

Philadelphia police have been searching for the driver ever since. They got a lead of a possible address where the suspect they were looking for may have been staying, and Thursday morning, they arrested 22-year-old Robert Reynolds at an apartment on the 9200 block of Blue Grass Road in the Northeast with help from U.S. Marshals.

USMS Supervisory Deputy Robert Clark noted that there is still a well-maintained memorial at the site of the accident.

“I go home that way, and I pass that memorial every day, and I just feel so horrible for the family. So when we got the call to assist in the arrest of Reynolds, I was thrilled to put the job together and that there was going to be closure for the family.”

Reynolds was charged with vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and related offenses.
