PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Veteran Philadelphia Police Officer Erin Tokley was laid to rest Thursday. He died from complications with COVID-19 last week at the age of 47.

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw spoke at his funeral at Calvary Baptist Church in West Philadelphia.

"Officer Tokley served his city honorably for 24 years, and in fact, was called home to the Lord on his 24th anniversary with the PPD," she said. "Like too many before him, Officer Tokley gave his life in service to this city and to our precious communities. And as has happened all too often this last year, his end of watch came at the hands of an invisible adversary: the COVID-19 virus."

Tokley was known as an officer who could restore peace and calm to any situation, she said.

Tokley grew up in Philadelphia. He was a father and husband, a gospel singer, and most recently, a minister.

He is the sixth Philadelphia police officer to die from COVID-19.
