PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new women’s sports hub is coming to Philly.
The founder, Jen Leary, said it will be a safe space where women sports fans can root for their favorite Philly teams.
“The Philadelphia sports fan base is loyal — they’re loyal to their teams, to their city, and that’s what the Stoop Pigeon is all about,” Leary said.
The Stoop Pigeon is the name of the planned hub that Leary and her team have been working to open for more than two years. The project grew out of Watch Party PHL, a small local group of fans celebrating women's sports. That group has grown into a movement with a powerful two-pronged purpose. The first is providing a safe space for women to watch sports.
“The second purpose was to show the WMBA and NWSL and anyone who would listen that Philly is a women’s sports town,” Leary said.
Both checked off the list….what now?
“Now that the WNBA is coming here in 2030 and Unrivaled is coming here in January, the goal now is to show them not only that they didn’t make a mistake but that other professional teams should come here, too.”
Leary said they are presently looking at locations. The hub aims to open in 2026.
