PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A police officer was injured on Tuesday when the driver of a pickup truck fled down a South Philadelphia sidewalk and refused to stop as officers approached the vehicle.
Video of the incident was captured on a resident's security camera.
Just before 11 a.m., police say, officers attempted to stop the driver near the intersection of 9th Street and Snyder Avenue. The driver briefly avoided the police by driving onto the sidewalk.
Blocked by police, the driver shifted into reverse and drove back the way he came. As officers approached the pickup, pickup the driver lurched forward again, before finally coming to a stop.
At some point, police say the officers also broke a window of the truck to deploy a taser on the driver. The driver was arrested, and the officer that was hurt was taken to the hospital, where they are expected to be treated and released.
