PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — PLNT Burger serves your typical burgers, fries and shakes, but one characteristic sets it apart.
“We just happen to be all plant-based and better for the planet,” said CEO Ben Kaplan.
The vegetarian eatery opens at the Jenkintown Whole Foods this weekend. It’s the second location in the area. The first PLNT Burger opened at the Whole Foods in Wynnewood.
Kaplan said opening inside Whole Foods has given them a lot of exposure.
“It’s a pretty common experience that you discover new products inside of a Whole Foods, and so people have been open to it at these locations,” he said.
The menu includes Beyond Meat patties, Follow Your Heart cheese and special sauces. The restaurant also serves vegan soft-serve ice cream using oat milk.
Kaplan noticed there has been more awareness of the plant-based diet during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We just simply don’t have enough land and resources to feed 10 billion [people] in 30 years, so we’ve got to come up with new solutions,” he added.
Fittingly, the Jenkintown location opens on the final weekend of National Vegetarian Week.
“It’s exciting for all our vegan, vegetarian followers as much as it is a recognition that this is a week to celebrate plants.”
