PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A water main break near the Plymouth Meeting Mall left some residents without water for several hours.

It happened early Sunday morning on Germantown Pike. Residents and business owners woke up to no water and clogged traffic.

Germantown Pike was closed on both sides between Plymouth and Chemical roads for some time.

Like many others, Vincent Greenfield woke up to a surprise.

“We cut the water on, there wasn’t no water. Then my daughter told me one of her friends texted her and said a water main line had broken, so therefore there was no water,” he said.

Fortunately, he was able to find a good Samaritan.

“The hotels were handing out bottles of water,” he said. “It was enough to wash your face and brush your teeth, but no food, no nothing. So we’re scrambling trying to find some food right now.”

Aqua Pennsylvania said the break occurred around 6:15 a.m. Crews were able to finally shut off the water main about three hours later.

The majority of affected customers have water again. Aqua said less than a dozen within the immediate area were still affected.

Aqua anticipates the issue to be completely resolved by 9:15 p.m. at the latest.
