PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 17-year-old boy died Saturday night after an accidental shooting in an East Germantown home, according to Philadelphia police.

Authorities said it happened on Ashmead Street near Rubicam Street just after 5 p.m. They indicate the 17-year-old and a 9-year-old boy were in a room with a BB gun and a handgun. The 9-year-old picked up a handgun and pulled the trigger, shooting the older boy.

Officials have said the younger boy did not believe the gun was loaded. The 17-year-old was taken to a hospital where he was initially listed in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead, according to police.

A 7-year-old girl who ran from the home sustained an injury to her foot. She was also taken to a hospital, and is in stable condition.

The incident is still under investigation.
