Police ask for help identifying man who allegedly murdered Dunkin Donuts manager

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities are asking the public to help identify the man whom they say shot and killed a Dunkin Donuts manager, as she opened a store in the Fairhill neighborhood of North Philadelphia on Saturday morning.

Surveillance video above shows the young mother complied with demands.

The suspect, a stocky man with a goatee who is believed to be in his late 30's or 40's, is dressed in a dark blue hoodie, jeans, wearing blue latex gloves.

At 5:30 a.m. Saturday, the suspect came up from behind to a startled Christine Lugo, who was unlocking the store along West Lehigh Avenue near 5th Street.

There was a brief discussion. The suspect, armed with a revolver, walked inside with the 40-year-old.

The video montage cuts to the Dunkin Donuts manager in the back kitchen talking with the suspect, with a clear image of his face. Eventually, the two went to a back office, with Lugo pulling money from the cash drawer and handing it to the man. The suspect then checked his watch on his right hand.

That’s when, officials say, the suspect fatally shoots her once in the head. The suspect then leaves.

"Police are actively working on leads. They are actively pulling video from the area," said Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Homicide Supervisor Chelsey Lightsey. She is urging the public to get involved, and she says police believe people in the neighborhood may know him.

"I am asking every Philadelphian, specifically the people who live in that neighborhood. to look now. There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of this murderer."

Dunkin' Donuts shared this statement in full about the murder case:

“We are aware of the tragic incident that occurred at the Dunkin' restaurant on Lehigh Street in Philadelphia. All of us at Dunkin' are saddened to learn of the death of Christine Lugo, and our thoughts go out to her family and friends. All Dunkin’ restaurants are owned and operated by franchisees, independent business owners who are solely responsible for the day to day operations of their restaurants, including staffing decisions. The franchise owner is cooperating fully with the local authorities in their investigation. As this is an active police investigation, we defer any further comment to the Philadelphia Police Department.”
