PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men were arrested and two guns were found, after police chased an SUV from Delaware County to Center City. A robbery at a smoke shop Tuesday night kick-started the pursuit.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt says authorities released descriptions of the three suspects — two men and one woman — and the vehicle they were driving. Officers later spotted the vehicle in Upper Darby Township.
"They attempted to stop it. The vehicle stopped. When the officers approached, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed," Bernhardt said.
Police followed the white Dodge Durango into Center City, Philadelphia, where it stopped at 23rd and Market streets. Investigators told NBC 10 the suspects bailed out of the car and ran.
"The vehicle was stopped and all three were taken into custody," Bernhardt said.
Police say one of the men ran for about one block before officers stopped him, and the other man was taken into custody when he tried to go back to the SUV to retrieve a dog that was left behind, say officials.
"Two of the males inside the vehicle are being charged. There were two firearms recovered. The female has since been released, since she's cooperating," Bernhardt said.
It is unclear what the suspects will be charged with.
