PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police identified the officer involved in a fatal shooting Tuesday morning as 26-year-old Officer Laura Pelczar of the 18th District.
Police said Pelczar and another officer responded to a home on the 5400 block of Webster Street about 7:14 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a family being held hostage.
When they arrived, police said, 75-year-old Anthony McKinley was on the front porch and pulled a handgun, pointing at the officers. The officers took cover.
When McKinley fired, Pelczar shot him once, police said
McKinley was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than 20 minutes later.
Police said Pelczar has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of investigations by the department and the district attorney's office.
