PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police officials say a man was shot by an officer Wednesday in the Feltonville section of the city.
Police say it was around 11 a.m. when they were called to the 4700 block of Rorer Street in response to a man with a weapon.
Sgt. Eric Gripp said when officers arrived at the scene, there was a man either trying to enter or leave a home, and they asked him to show his hands.
He then turned around and pulled out a knife, according to officers, who say they tased him after he refused to drop it.
Gripp said the man continued the come after the officers after being tased multiple times, which is when they shot him three times.
George Martinez with the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network was on the scene talking with neighbors about the shooting.
“We have to find a way to actually put a stop to this, because the community hurts. The community is hurt by this,” Martinez said.
The man was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.
