Man drives through Philadelphia Coast Guard security barrier, attacks officer, police say

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was arrested after authorities said he drove through a security barrier at a U.S. Coast Guard station and attacked a police officer.

It happened around 7 p.m. Saturday at the station at 1 Washington Avenue. Police said a man driving a white sedan breached the gate.

Once inside, he allegedly disabled several surveillance cameras and communication devices, then struck a police officer in the face with one of the cameras, causing minor injuries.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to a hospital.

Police said he may have been under the influence of narcotics.
