PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two Philadelphia police officers and a suspect were shot after an hours-long barricade in Germantown over the weekend.
It began shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday. Police responded to a report of an armed man at a house on the 400 block of West Bringhurst Street.
Investigators spent the next nine hours trying to communicate with the 65-year-old man barricaded inside. He refused to leave, and police ultimately lost communication with him, so they forced themselves inside.
During the entry, the suspect shot through a bedroom door and hit two officers, ages 56 and 35, in their protective vests.
They fired back and shot the suspect once in the shoulder. He was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Police said the two officers were taken to the hospital as a precaution but are physically OK. They have both been placed on leave, which is the protocol for officer-involved shooting investigations.
