PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A police pursuit in Delaware County ended near the airport, where officers threw down spikes to stop a stolen SUV. Police said the four suspects tried to get away by jumping into a pond, but they were ultimately arrested.

Several Delaware County police departments were chasing a Dodge Durango overnight, which was stolen in Prospect Park. Police said the four people in the Durango had been involved in several car break-ins in the county.

The pursuit ended around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, when the SUV crashed on Route 291 in Tinicum Township. Police said spike strips were used to stop the Durango.

Police said the four suspects then ran off and jumped into a large pond near Tinicum Island Road.

Police set up a perimeter and used K9s to find and arrest all four suspects. There’s no word yet on any charges.

No one was injured during the pursuit.
