PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are looking for two suspects they say carjacked a father sitting in a car with his two kids in Upper Darby Thursday afternoon. One of those kids was still inside when they took off in the vehicle.

Police say the carjacking happened just after 3 p.m. Thursday as a father waited with his two kids in their car while his wife shopped at a corner store on West Chester Pike between Merion Terrace and New Street in Upper Darby.

Then, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt says two suspects approached the vehicle, a white Honda Pilot, and one confronted the father.

“He and the one male struggle, gets outside the vehicle, the suspect overpowers the male and he’s able to get inside the vehicle,” he said.

Bernhardt says one of the two kids, a five-year-old, was able to escape the vehicle before one of the suspects took off in it. But the two-month-old remained inside.

As one of the suspects drove away, police also believe they fired one shot that struck a crowded SEPTA bus. No one inside was hurt.

“That suspect bails out at North State and West Chester Pike, we believe because he realizes the two-month-old is still in the vehicle,” Bernhardt said.

Police say the driver then fled into Cobbs Creek Golf Course. The second suspect fled before the carjacking was successful and is thought to have gone towards the 69th Street Transportation Center.

Police also recovered a gun in the stolen car. The couple and their two children were not hurt.

One suspect was said to be wearing black jeans and a black hoodie with a Monster Energy logo on the back. The other is said to have a pink cast on one of their arms.
