PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Following a midday double murder in the city's Spring Garden neighborhood, authorities were back in the neighborhood Tuesday, still looking for their suspect.
Authorities credit the public for helping identify who they believe is the shooter.
Several floors of the North by Northwest apartments along Spring Garden and 18th Streets were evacuated around 11 a.m., but they did not find who they were looking for.
SWAT focused on the 12th floor of the north tower, looking for a person of interest in a Memorial Day afternoon double murder near the corner of 16th and Brandywine streets.
Two men, ages 27 and 30 years old, were found shot and killed.
"There were two firearms recovered from inside the vehicle in which one of the decedents was found located inside, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head," said Philadelphia Police Department Homicide Unit Captain Jason Smith. "The other decedent was found several feet away from that vehicle."
Smith said because it was in the middle of the day, several eye-witnesses came forward. Their information led police to the North by Northwest apartments.
"Numerous articles of evidentiary value were recovered from within that apartment. The homicide seems to be narcotics related," said Smith.
Though they are not naming the suspect just yet, they believe he is armed and dangerous, and they continue to search for him.
