Police search for 2nd suspect in West Philly block party shooting that killed 3 people

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are asking for the public's help in finding a second suspect in a mass shooting on Sunday at an outdoor party in West Philadelphia that killed three people.

Amir Jones, 30, is wanted on homicide and aggravated assault charges in connection with the early-morning shooting. Suspect Tahir Shoatz, 28, is already in police custody, facing homicide and aggravated assault charges.

In all, nine people were shot at the party around 2 a.m., along Alden Street, about a block away from Haverford Avenue and Carroll Park. According to authorities, video evidence shows an altercation at the party escalated into a gunfight.

The three people killed in the gunfight are Rashid Jones, 29, his brother Akil Jones, 33, and Sakayi Robinson, 33.

Police say Amir Jones and Shoatz both are among the six wounded. They have not said whether Amir Jones is related to brothers Rashid and Akil, but they say he is from the area in West Philadelphia.

Amir Jones is considered armed and dangerous, and police urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to submit an anonymous tip via phone or text at 215-686-TIPS.
